It’s that time of year again, when ADMAF (Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation) fills the capital with wonderful works of art in the form of opera, dance, ballet, classical music and so much more! Of all the annual Abu Dhabi events, this festival is my absolute favourite, as I really miss the arts & culture scene, which we are so accustomed to in Europe. This is a special year as the Abu Dhabi Festival celebrates its 15th edition during a very special time in the UAE – The Year of Zayed, which commemorates 100 years since the birth of Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, founding father of the UAE.
To kick start the season, I enjoyed a beautiful classical concert last night at the opulent Emirates Palace: Nicola Benedetti & the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment who performed concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven. For those of you who do not know her, Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought after violinists today, and collaborates with the best orchestras in the world. The concerto left the entire audience speechless, as Nicola’s passion for her art, radiates with every single movement she makes.
The Abu Dhabi Festival has an incredible line up of shows, have a look at their official website, and Facebook for a sneak peak of what’s coming 🙂
I am already making plans to enjoy:
- The Merchants of Bollywood
- Opera in Concert: Deborah Voigt and Bechara Moufarrej
- We The Living: Classical Indian Dance by Tanusree Shankar Dance Company
Hope to see you at one of the shows! 🙂
