“Italian food is all about ingredients. And its not fussy and its not fancy” – Wolfgang Puck
My love for Italian food, has been a lifelong affair … pasta in all shapes, sizes and textures, in particular. While I do explore with new dishes and creations, Italian food is always my home comfort. Having travelled all over Italy, I also consider myself to be an unofficial brand ambassador of the cuisine, after all – just this summer I stuffed myself with pasta, pizza, gelato, antipasti and plenty of wine in Tuscany. In Abu Dhabi, we have some amazing Italian restaurants like Spaccanapoli, Prego’s, Villa Toscana, Olives by Todd English, Circo, Cafe Milano and Cipriani to name a few. Roberto’s Abu Dhabi, opened in 2017 as a second outlet, following the footsteps of its award winning sibling in Dubai. I had the absolute delight to enjoy lunch with a friend, al fresco, of course, since the weather is perfect right now!
Located on Al Maryah Island in the Rosewood hotel, overlooking the Arabian Sea – its location cannot be more chic! The venue is split between a restaurant, lounge and beautiful open kitchen, where guests can watch the chefs do their magic … and by that I mean, getting a scent of the freshly baked bread, for starters! The decor reflects the utmost sophistication and elegance, with its polished dark wood designs and, gorgeous outdoor terrace. Upon entrance, guests will pass by the Crudo Bar which features fresh seafood on display and live cooking! The restaurant’s bar, Salotto, oozes modern elegance and is a great place to enjoy specially crafted drinks while listening to live music.
Exactly as Italian food should be, the dishes at Roberto’s are sensational in terms of flavour, quality, presentation, and I must say, quantity! Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef Francesco Guarracino, who firmly believes that ingredients are the most important element in cooking, and distinguish truly authentic Italian food, from average. It’s no wonder he was recently awarded BBC Good Food’s Chef of the Year!
Here are the dishes which we enjoyed:
- Starter: Fiori di zuccha – deep fried zucchini flower, stuffed with oozing melted cheese
- Main Courses: Roberto’s Ravioli – burrata cheese ravioli with fresh Datterino tomato sauce and basil and Roberto’s Risotto Bosco – wild forest mushroom risotto with shaved black truffle (the best I have ever had).
- Desserts: Roberto’s Ciocco Colato – Warm 72% dark chocolate foam with hazelnut ice cream and La Pera – an insatiable dessert made from ricotta, hazelnuts, chocolate, pear bits and red wine reduction.
Italian food is for the soul, it’s no wonder Italians are ambassadors of “la dolce vita“, and at Roberto’s Abu Dhabi, you can truly indulge in exquisite dishes, made from the freshest ingredients!
